St. Paul's Altar Guild prepares the altar for all worship services and maintains the vessels and linens which are used on the altar. The group is also responsible for decorating the church for major holidays. The Altar Guild's main purpose is to contribute to the excellence of the worship of the people of St. Paul’s. Eucharistic Visitors and Ministers Eucharistic Ministors are lay people licensed by the Bishop to administer the consecrated elements -- the bread and wine -- of the Eucharist. Eucharistic Visitors have an additional license to go from a celebration of the Eucharist to share the sacrament with members of the congregation who were unable to be present at the celebration. At St. Paul's, many Eucharistic Ministers are also lectors, but this can also be a self-contained ministry. Lectors are responsible for reading the Old and New Testament lessons, leading the Prayers of the People, and sometimes leading the congregation in reading the psalm. It is enriching to our worship to hear many different voices, and training is provided to assist in pronunciation and delivery. Click here for a Liturgical Calendar for upcoming weeks with links to the readings for each day. The Episcopal Church uses the readings in the Revised Common Lectionary (RCL). Saint Paul's ushers welcome people to our worship services on Sundays and other holy days. They distribute the service bulletins and other materials, they take up the offering, and they"direct traffic" at the time in the service when the congregation approaches the altar rail to receive Communion. Ushers provide directions and assistance to visitors, and are always available during the services to assist with any questions or concerns.
